Anthropic has expanded Claude’s memory so that context can now follow users between regular Claude conversations and Claude Cowork, which until were completely separate.

That sounds like a minor convenience at first but for anyone constantly switching between ideation and getting it done, like small businesses, it could be much more important.

The biggest problem with using AI at work is often not model quality. It’s context.

Every time you start a new task, you end up explaining the same things again: what the company does, who the customers are, what project you’re working on, how you like reports structured, what tools you use, and what decisions have already been made.

The memory is designed to reduce that repetition. If Claude already knows your projects, priorities, team structure and working preferences, that context can now carry over when you move from discussing something in chat to actually executing work in Cowork.

You could discuss an upcoming event, campaign or client project in Claude, then later ask Cowork to prepare the budget, research competitors, organise documents or produce status reports without rebuilding the entire context from scratch.

Anthropic is also making memory fairly transparent, so users can see the topics Claude remembers, edit them, remove outdated information and use Incognito chats when they don’t want something added to memory.

That control is important because persistent AI context is useful only if businesses can understand and manage what the system knows.

This context layer sits above all your connected systems. Your CRM still stores customer data. Jira or Todoist still stores tasks. Your documentation still contains your processes. But the AI gradually understands how those pieces fit together and how you actually work.

That could make a much bigger difference to small businesses than another small improvement in AI benchmark scores.
