TikTok said on 5 October 2026, at Advertising Week New York, that it is building Agentic Commerce on top of the For You feed. Buy Direct is in-app checkout from a brand, one tap from the feed, without sending the buyer to a site. Shopping Assistant is a conversational agent in several in-app surfaces. TikTok says it keeps context, recalls what the shopper asked for, and covers product details, shipping, sizing, availability, and the purchase in one thread. The commerce and payments partners named are Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza, Stripe, and others. Adweek reported the features are beginning to roll out to US users and brands. The newsroom post does not give a merchant go-live date, a fee, or a settings path.

What actually happened

This is not a new tab inside TikTok Shop. TikTok Shop stays the marketplace. Buy Direct is checkout against the brand, from the feed. Shopping Assistant is the research step that used to happen on your product page or in DMs.

Previously a US buyer saw the video, tapped out, and landed on Shopify. Stock, size, and returns were your page's problem after the click. Now TikTok says the same buyer can ask the agent and pay without leaving the app. The agent will only know what the connected catalog and payment partner pass through. TikTok has not published the field list.

The same post also covers Agentic Leads, a US ad network, Smart+ search ads, and GMV Max cost inputs. Those are separate jobs. This piece is only the checkout path.

Why a small team cares

Take a three-person apparel brand on Shopify that spends on TikTok to sell one hoodie. Last month the winning creative sent people to a product page with three sizes, a 5-day ship note, and a 14-day return. If Buy Direct is on for that SKU, the agent has to answer those three facts and take payment. A size chart that lives only in an image, or a returns policy that lives only in the footer, does not travel. The failure shows up as an abandoned in-app checkout, not a high CPC.

US-only matters. A Malaga shop selling into Spain and the UK has nothing to switch on this week. A US Shopify store with TikTok as a top source does.

Hype vs useful

TikTok's claim is that discovery now drives action inside the app. That is a product direction, not a measured lift. No conversion rate, take rate, or refund rate is in the announcement. "One click" assumes the shopper already has a saved payment method and the SKU is in stock. Partners being "built with" is not the same as a Shopify admin toggle you can flip today.

Useful part: the path from video to payment just got shorter for US buyers, and the failure mode moved upstream into catalog fields. Test one SKU. Do not rebuild the media plan around an agent that is still rolling out.
